!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Looking for a "Tavarish Special" Grandpa Luxo-cruiser for less than 5k to cart around my new spawn that arrives in August. I've been using the opportunity to lobby the wife about a car that I can drive the kid around in that's A) safe, B) not my FRS backseat.

This thing looks stupid clean and in order for 176K miles. Lexus has +++'s for reliability over a Merc.

What do you guys think? I will be keeping the FR-S for autocross fun and whenever I want to *drive* a car.

The ad is a little bit vague, and who knows what the selling price will end up being.

Depends on what the reserve price is.

Having said that, in response to a question, the seller says " HiI got receipts of all maintenance done from 100k (my receipts totaling $11,272.69 in work done on the car)"

So... $11,272,69 of work over 76900 miles... which means you can expect the maintenance and repairs to be $0.14 - $0.15/mile. So if you drive 10,000 miles a year, you can expect to have to set aside $125/month for maintenance/repair... or double that if you do twice the mileage. Not bad at all.

And the fact that the owner has all those receipts is a good sign the car was cared for.

Downsides:

-I checked car-part.com for used engines and sorted by mileage. Not seeing many beyond 200,000 miles for that generation However when looking at the older LS400, I see more being listed as over 200,000 miles and one with 350,000 miles. This could also just be due to LS owners not typically being high-mileage drivers. So let's say that you can safely get another 20,000-25,000 miles out of this thing. Beyond that... who knows?

-Parts are not that plentiful and seem to be more expensive than cheaper/higher volume cars.

-expect to spend more on gas compared to many cheaper cars.

For $5000-$7000, I give this a Nice Price. But if that reserve price is more like $10,000, then I say forget it.

Consider as well that on Autotrader, there is one with 180,000 miles selling for $7000:
